Elle has a new look

I straightened Elle's hair yesterday for the first time. It really needed some serious Chi strength, but she's too wiggly to pull that out, so we settled for the smaller, less hot touch up iron. It turned out cute, but still big! She was happy to "look like Belle". A few hours later she touched her hair, gave me this weird look and said "what happened my hair?"

And of course, I can't straighten one without the other...

Stennis Space Center

Yesterday we took the girls to the NASA Stennis Space Center, just over the Mississippi line. It's a rocket testing facility and they recently built a little museum on the property too. We took a bus tour of the rocket testing facilities. It was really pretty cool! Cameron was less impressed since he's been to Huntsville a number of times. The girls got a kick out of the rockets though!

Christmas 2012

This was the first time in 3 years that we were able to go back to Georgia for the holidays.  We had a great time, but it was incredibly busy!  The girls went to school through Friday the 21st so it was a bit of a whirlwind getting out of town.

Friday was a half day for both girls, so I went to school that morning for the parties.  Scarlett's class had donuts and chocolate milk, then had a very special visit from Santa.  They played a few games, and then I left for Elle's party.  They sang us a few Christmas carols and then we made a craft with the class.

The 4 of us celebrated Christmas Friday night by going to dinner at Houston's, then letting the girls open presents from us.

Scarlett wrote Santa a note asking him to visit us early since we were going to Georgia and sent it to the North Pole with Chippy.  We left out cookies and reindeer food on Friday night and woke up to presents from Santa on Saturday!  The girls both got a scooter and helmet and they also got a Bubble Guppy toy.

Shortly after riding scooters up and down the hall, we left for Georgia.  We arrived in Callaway Gardens around 4 and ate dinner with the family (all 14 of us!) and enjoyed the lights on the Jolly Trolley.  Sunday morning we had breakfast, then went to the Butterfly house and the Horticulture Center.  At first Elle thought the butterflies were cool, but when she got a closer look she said "I DON'T LIKE BUTTERFLIES BLEEEEHHHHH!"

We left Callaway around noon and headed to Conyers where I met up with Sarah and Courtney and their precious little babies.  They are growing up so fast I love seeing them whenever I have a chance!

Monday was Christmas eve and Grandpa's birthday.  We went to lunch downtown at the Sundial (the restaurant on top of the Peachtree Plaza - 74 stories up and it rotates).  The girls enjoyed the elevator ride "up up up!" but I think the view of the city was a bit lost on them!  It was fun for me to go back though since I hadn't been in years.  After dinner we went to Oma's to visit with my extended family.  It was fun to reunite with lots of cousins!

We spent Tuesday at Grandpa and Coco's house.  We opened presents, enjoyed coffee and breakfast then a delicious Christmas dinner.  The girls were so enthralled with their new dollhouse that we didn't see them for most of the day!

Wednesday we headed to Grammie and Papa's for more good food, family and presents!  The girls were true rockstars with their Barbie guitars and tiaras!

Thursday was pretty low key as we hung out with family at Grammie's house.  We all went to lunch and to Northpoint mall where I was able to find 5 new pairs of jeans with my Christmas money!  Woohoo H&M!

Friday we headed to Canton to visit Gigi and Donk.  We met them for breakfast at Cracker Barrel, then played at their house for most of the day until our traditional Outback feast that night.  We exchanged a few presents after dinner and the girls got in their new jammies to head to bed.

Saturday we woke bright and early for more presents!

Elle was absolutely thrilled with her "choo choo train a Christmas"

We relaxed for the rest of the day and enjoyed some Christmas goodies.

Sunday we woke up and headed out again to go back to Conyers.  We met up with Joe & his girlfriend Kella and Daniel, Jessica and their girls Ali and Annalee.  We had lunch at Mellow Mushroom then went back to Daniel and Jessica's house so the girls could play while we visited.  Scarlett asked me on the way home the next day why we couldn't play with them more.  It's the perfect match since Scarlett and Alison are only a month apart and Elle and Annalee are only 2 weeks apart.  Too bad we can't do more playdates!

Monday we left super early to head home.  It seemed like a very long drive, but we made it home mid afternoon and even were able to pick up Abbie on the way back.

I took many many more pictures than I posted here.  Apparently I can't share facebook albums with non facebook people anymore so I didn't bother to post them there.  Check out our Flickr account for the rest!

High Boots! And other musings of a 2 year old

Elle is so funny lately with her little stories.  She got some gold "uggs" for Scarlett's birthday and she LOVES those things.  "I have high boots!  They sparkly!  Like my high boots mommy?"  She wore them to pick up Scarlett the other day.  We were standing at the gate with all the other parents waiting on the kids and Elle pointed to a mom wearing black leather boots - "see mommy, she has high boots too!"  We went to a birthday party this morning and she insisted on wearing her other favorite pair of shoes, little black mary janes with bows on the toes.  "Like my black shoes, mommy?  I so fancy.  Have bows!  Like my dress?  Has hearts!  Mommy no tutu on.  Mommy not fancy today"  I guess I better step it up with my jeans-wearing.

Scarlett and I were talking about baby Jesus the other morning before school and Elle piped up "Hey, I know baby Jesus!  He mommy Mary!"

I asked her the other day if she liked Santa and she said a quick "NO!"  then followed it up with "he scary.  Santa a pirate."  And then a little later - "I like he reindeer.  They cute!"

Santa

We went to see Santa at the mall this weekend. Scarlett loved him (no surprise) and Elle was terrified. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. That's me holding her & hiding behind Santa because she wouldn't come near his sleigh. At least this picture is a little better than last year when she is all out red faced screaming!

Scarlett's 5th Birthday

I'm a bit behind, but Scarlett turned 5 last Saturday and we had a very busy, very fun weekend to celebrate.  Right after school on Friday, we took her to get her ears pierced.  She jumped a little when they pierced them, but said it didn't really hurt.  After that we went to the mall and she got to build her birthday build a bear.  Then we went to dinner at the "China Place" aka P.F. Chang's.  On a side note, I didn't know until our last visit, but they are very considerate of food allergies.  We told our server and he let the kitchen know and they prepared Scarlett's meal away from any peanuts.  By Saturday morning, all the grandparents had made it into town and we were ready to celebrate!  Her party was at Elmwood Gymnastics and it was fantastic!  Between Scarlett's friends and a few younger siblings Elle's age, we had close to 15 kids.  They played on the tumble track, big trampoline, floor and some of the preschool mats and equipment.  After that we had pizza and double doozie cookie cake (delicious!).  When the party was over we came home and had VooDoo BBQ and more cookie cake while Scarlett opened her presents.

Friday night - getting her ears pierced!  Oh, I forgot to mention that we had Fuzzy, the class monkey with us for the weekend!  Here he is, holding Scarlett tight.

My big 5 year old!

Her cake.  We didn't have a specific party theme, but she saw this penguin cake and had to have it!

And with Mommy & Daddy

Elle wasn't sure she wanted to participate at first, but she ended up having a great time!

And the grand finale!  She thought this was awesome!

5 Year Checkup

Scarlett had her 5 year checkup yesterday.  Everything looks great!  I didn't really realize it until the doctor mentioned it, but we made it through her whole 4th year without a single sick visit!  Let's hope we can keep up that trend!  She is 44 pounds (85%) and 44 1/2 inches (99%).  We knew she was tall, but 99th percentile...geez!
