I hate teeth...

Wait, let me rephrase that. I hate all thing having to do with the mouth. My reasons are practically a thousand-fold:

Scarlett is currently getting what I can only assume to be 5 teeth at once and this week has been rough to say the least. She is screaming and crying at the drop of a hat (we like to call her "delicate balance").

I've got her on constant motrin, but she likes to spit it as soon as it touches her tongue, so not sure she's getting the appropriate dose. Another reason to hate the mouth.

Because she's teething, she refuses to eat. Which only perpetuates the vicious cycle here and makes her more angry. One upside I had in my weekend was when I took her to McD's for breakfast Saturday after a horrendous fight over what to eat in this house. I said "Scarlett, would you like a biscuit". She shook her head yes and said "I do". And yes, yes she did. She went crazy for that biscuit and the fruit and yogurt parfait. Followed by a good hour of blissful happiness. Yes, I said HOUR.

To further my hatred of the mouth, on Saturday morning, she falls and busts her lip on her doll cradle. She tore her frenum (and yes, that was immediately identified by Cameron as I have never heard of such a word - it's that piece of skin between your gum and your lip above your top front teeth). Anyway, that means she has an open wound in her mouth, which means I get the job of making sure her mouth stays super clean and that she only drinks clear liquids (no milk) for at least 48 hours. Ugg. No milk further perpetuates this hungry angry cycle we've got going here.

Head trauma and I headed to Target this afternoon on an errand for Cameron. Inbetween the 4 meltdowns we had on our 20 minute journey, I made her happy by letting her pick out new books. She got "go go" - Diego (who she is in LOVE with), "Ba" - Yo Gabba Gabba and a Princess book (which is slowly turning from "P" to something sounding more like "princess". It's currently something like "P-cess").

Here's about all she's been good for this weekend - sitting in her recliner and watching either "Ba", "go-go", "doda" or "p-cess".

Here's hoping for a better week!!

Fort

We've had these crazy foam floor tiles laying around here for months and months. I took them up when we got a proper rug for the living room, but Scarlett loves playing with them and on them so much, that I've yet to put them in the attic. One boring afternoon this week I got the brilliant idea to use them to build Scarlett a fort. It has been a HUGE hit! She loves crawling in her own little room with her toys and hanging out.

Tonight she was carrying around Bitty baby, 2 puppies, her quilt, a hairbrush and a baby bottle. All essential items in a girl's life. She brought all of that in her fort with her.

Happy Father's Day!

We celebrated Father's Day yesterday since Cameron's on call today. Scarlett woke up eager to give daddy his presents. I took Scarlett to paint Cameron a present at a paint your own pottery shop a few weeks ago. She made him a picture frame that turned out really cute!
Haha...I told them to smile here :)
Here's a closeup of the present.
We didn't do too much special during the day yesterday. We just hung out around the house and enjoyed each other's company (something we haven't done in awhile!!). Father's day dinner was courtesy of Outback.

Happy Father's Day to all our dads :) Can't wait for our belated celebration with my dad and Cameron's dad over the 4th!

A night out!!

Friday night was one of the first nights out that Cameron and I have had without Scarlett since she was born. We dropped her off at my friend Emily's house and headed downtown to the Ritz for the Oral Surgery graduation dinner. We had a great time hanging with our friends and eating fancy steaks. Emily reported that Scarlett was a very good girl and went to sleep with hardly any issue in the pack and play. I am not sure if she is lying :o)

The first year guys are responsible for a roast of the graduating chiefs and that went off very well! They filmed a very special celebrity Jeopardy where Cameron starred as Alex Trebek.

5 years from now we'll be at this dinner as the subject of those jokes. Seems really far off...

Here's the guys in Cameron's class - Matt, Cameron and Curtis

And one of the wives - me and Tonya (Curtis's wife and Grayson's mommy)

What we're up to this week

Playdate after playdate...here's what we've been up to this week!

Monday was a coffee playdate which didn't really pan out because as it turns out, the kids weren't feeling Starbucks. We gathered up our coffee and moved the playdate to Emily's house right around the corner. Kids got popsicles and were much better!!

Tuesday we headed downtown to the aquarium. It was busy (as I expected since it's summer), but we still had a good time. Scarlett liked the little fish, but wasn't so crazy about the big ones. They scared her because she didn't quite understand they couldn't get her through the glass. She LOVED the otters though!! Laughed and talked to them for quite awhile!

Wednesday we had a few friends over in the morning, but had a pretty quiet boring afternoon.

Today we hung here in the morning. We did a little playing outside, but had to come in at 9:30 when we started to get too hot and sweaty! Scarlett has become even more attached to puppy lately and we can't leave him behind for anything! The minute we go to a different room or leave the house, Scarlett screams for "PEEEEE".

Here she is playing balance beam and throwing puppy through the ladder.

Down the slide - puppy is first! And now it's Scarlett's turn.
And back up again!

In the car headed on our weekly Target trip. I got out my sunglasses and handed Scarlett hers. She put them on by herself!

Tomorrow, Cameron and I are headed to the OMFS graduation dinner at the Ritz downtown, so Scarlett gets to stay with a babysitter!! Fingers crossed that it goes well!

Happy Birthday Cameron!

We celebrated Cameron's 27th birthday on Saturday. Unfortunately he was on call on Friday night and got an early birthday present of a gunshot wound at 6:45 AM, so we didn't start our celebrating until around noon. After Scarlett got up from her nap, we had cake and presents! Scarlett really wanted to open all of daddy's presents!

She was a big helper with opening and an even bigger helper with playing with the presents! Here she is playing light sabers with daddy. (These are actually Wii remotes for playing the Star Wars game).
Scarlett and I gave Cameron a Wii nunchuk, these lightsabers, the Wii game - Lego Indiana Jones, and a flying toy helicopter. Scarlett LOVED the helicopter!!

Scarlett is relaxing after all the excitement! I tried to bribe her with a present of her own - a Snow White doll to complete the Disney Princess doll collection. She was more interested in the lightsabers and toy helicopter though!

Thanks to all the family that sent money / giftcards to Cameron! We spent a good hour and a half in Best Buy today looking at everything that store has to offer. Cameron finally settled on a new receiver - which I'm super excited about because it means the dvd player, speakers, cords, etc that have been sitting around not hooked up for a YEAR are now all in working order (or at least on their way to working order - still need more speaker wire or something).

Scarlett knows her princesses...do you?

She may not be able to say their names yet (except for Belle), but Scarlett knows her princesses! I created a princess lineup last night and called out names and she handed me the correct princess every time!

See if you can meet the challenge :)

Big girl bed

Scarlett is 2 nights and almost 2 naps down in the big girl bed!! I have been so thrilled with how she's taken right to it. She's cried a little both nights when I laid her down, but she didn't get up out of it and went right to sleep. She's stayed in it all night - no falling out, no getting out to wander around!! Fingers crossed that this keeps up!! I have yet to put her in there to fall asleep on her own for nap time (I've put her in there sleeping from the car the past 2 days), so that will be the real test.

Long Weekend

Cameron and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary on Thursday and the fun extended through the weekend! Cameron took Step 1 of his medical boards on Friday, so Thursday was the day of relaxation before test day (and our actual anniversary). We took Scarlett downtown to the Children's Museum which was really neat. There were lots of exhibits, but Scarlett's favorite was the Winn Dixie kid sized grocery store. She spent lots of time shopping for produce. She had a basket full of corn (kept saying "corn, corn").
Sitting with daddy playing lincoln logs. I don't know what that look is, but it cracks me up!

They also had a huge toddler area with lots of these foam climbing blocks, slides, a kitchen, and tons more.
Cameron had his test on Friday. He says the experience was horrible (as I'm sure an 8 hour test would be). We won't know his score for another 6 weeks though. As soon as he was done we hopped in the car for our family vacation getaway weekend to Biloxi. It's only a little over an hour drive, so perfect for a quick trip. We stayed in the Beau Rivage casino, which was really nice. They had a big pool and it was right by the beach. On Saturday morning we got up and headed over to the beach. Scarlett was NOT liking it to begin with. She would not put her feet in the sand. She kept crying and saying "shoes" because she thought her feet were getting dirty.

After some coaxing, I got her to sit on a towel and play in the sand
It didn't take long for her to warm up and decide to run around in the sand.
She LOVED the water! If it hadn't been for the jellyfish, she probably would have stayed in there for quite awhile! The jellyfish were all over. I was too scared she would get stung if she stayed in (and that definitely would have ruined the only full day we had there!).

After the beach we came back to the hotel for lunch and a nap!And then we were off to the pool for a little while. It was really nice, but there was a ton of people there!! Scarlett didn't last long in the water before she started shivering. It has been raining a lot lately which cooled things off a bit and with the breeze off the water, it was a little chilly. We sat in our chairs poolside and enjoyed a few frozen adult beverages, then headed in to dinner.

We got changed and headed down to the buffet (I mean, we WERE staying in a casino after all!). The food was good and Scarlett got a plate full of her favorites - mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, baked chicken, broccoli and cheese and of course, corn.
Today was our last day, so we got up, got packed and headed down to brunch before making the drive home. Here's Scarlett in the lobby, waiting on our table at the cafe.
It was a very good weekend, but tomorrow is back to reality! Cameron heads back to the hospital for 3 more weeks on service for his intern year. We're happy to be home and in our own beds though. Scarlett is sleeping in her big girl bed tonight! Stay tuned for how that goes...

Scarlett-ese

Scarlett's doctor asked me on Tuesday if she knew 8-10 "real" words in addition to her almost there or made up words. I said yes, but then started thinking she knows WAY more than 10 real words. Here's my feeble attempt to list them all (I'm sure I'm missing some):

Mama and dada (sometimes mom and dad), hi, bye bye, go, hot, cold, bubbles, bird, bug, dog, shoes, feet, toes, fish, bear, teeth, Map (from Dora), cheese, night night, eye, nose, NO! (that's a favorite!), baby, book, car, ball, corn, good, boo!, tea, key, uh oh, phone

And just a few of the non-real ones (I certainly cannot list them all!):
"P" - can mean Peaches (my mom's dog), puppy (sometimes "peepee") or princesses
"Kee" - cookie (not always a REAL cookie...also means poptarts, candy, and muffins) and Cookie monster
"ba" - Yo Gabba Gabba - her favorite show aside from princesses
"doda" - Dora - another favorite show
"Dee" - Diego - and yet another show (can you tell we have a tv addict here?)
"Meh-mo" - Elmo
"Gee" - usually means hungry

I consider this quite an impressive list considering she was well over one before she said her very first word (bye bye). And just a month or so ago she had a managable list of maybe 6 words - real and not.

18 month checkup

Scarlett had her 18 month checkup this morning...right on time since she turned 18 months old today! She's 23 lbs 14oz which is in the 45th percentile and almost 33 inches tall (75th percentile). The doctor said she was looking good! Scarlett screamed with the doctor tried to lay her down to look in her ears and mouth and screamed again when the nurse tried to lay her down to give her one shot. We're done with shots till she's 4! Since she was a good girl, I took her to Target to pick out a new toy. She wouldn't let go of a Yo Gabba Gabba guitar (her new favorite show), so that's what we ended up with. She's been dancing to the songs all afternoon!
