Fort - take 2

Scarlett loved my ghetto fort made out of floor tiles SO much, that we decided to get her a real fort - "cat fort" as she said. It's a Hello Kitty play tent. So far she's loving it!

It's good for plenty of things...

Playing with puppy

And just general hanging out! We've got one happy girl today!!

4th of July Weekend

We had a fun 4th of July weekend! We had Cameron's parents and my dad and Jill here to visit. Everyone got here Friday and left early this morning, so we had plenty of time for a visit - although it did fly by! Friday we hung around here for the day, then went to Chili's for dinner (where we bribed Scarlett to be good with M&M's!). Saturday we stayed here again and my dad broke out the smoker to make pork and chicken bbq. It was DELICIOUS!! Sunday we got out of the house for a little while and braved the heat to head over to City Park and check out Storyland. Here's some cute pictures from the weekend:

Here's Scarlett and Gigi (Scarlett was all over "gigi, gigi" - had that name down!!).

Here was the extent of our fireworks! Scarlett goes to bed at 7, so it's still bright as day out. We did sparklers for her. I think she liked them :)Here's a few pictures from Storyland.

Trying to get Scarlett to ride the Carousel. Yeah, it was HOT. Can you tell?

Pictures around here on Sunday afternoon

Scarlett likes to squint when she smiles :)

Peek a boo!

This one is from this morning BEFORE the ill fated trip to the library. We sat outside at the cafe in the front of the library and it had just rained. This girl ended up completely soaked and covered in dirt. Then she was NOT happy!

On the upswing

Or at least I hope!! Things have gone downhill since the teething episodes of the weekend as Scarlett and I both are now sick with colds. I am on the mend (at least I think). There must have been some magical powers in either the Starbucks iced coffee or the princess chicken noodle soup (yeah, Disney princess soup...who knew that existed?) because I am semi- breathing out of my nose now. I gave Scarlett some soup too and she's sleeping it off right now. She picked out Pocahontas at Target this morning, so we're going to try to give poor Ariel a rest for the afternoon. She seems to be doing better. At least less melt downs during the day. She's on the correct dose of Motrin now, so I'm sure that's a big part of it. As soon as she wakes up I'm off to get her Triaminic to dry up that nose of hers. Here's hoping we're all put back together by the weekend. Less than 2 days till our family gets here!

Fingers crossed for less of this:

I hate teeth...

Wait, let me rephrase that. I hate all thing having to do with the mouth. My reasons are practically a thousand-fold:

Scarlett is currently getting what I can only assume to be 5 teeth at once and this week has been rough to say the least. She is screaming and crying at the drop of a hat (we like to call her "delicate balance").

I've got her on constant motrin, but she likes to spit it as soon as it touches her tongue, so not sure she's getting the appropriate dose. Another reason to hate the mouth.

Because she's teething, she refuses to eat. Which only perpetuates the vicious cycle here and makes her more angry. One upside I had in my weekend was when I took her to McD's for breakfast Saturday after a horrendous fight over what to eat in this house. I said "Scarlett, would you like a biscuit". She shook her head yes and said "I do". And yes, yes she did. She went crazy for that biscuit and the fruit and yogurt parfait. Followed by a good hour of blissful happiness. Yes, I said HOUR.

To further my hatred of the mouth, on Saturday morning, she falls and busts her lip on her doll cradle. She tore her frenum (and yes, that was immediately identified by Cameron as I have never heard of such a word - it's that piece of skin between your gum and your lip above your top front teeth). Anyway, that means she has an open wound in her mouth, which means I get the job of making sure her mouth stays super clean and that she only drinks clear liquids (no milk) for at least 48 hours. Ugg. No milk further perpetuates this hungry angry cycle we've got going here.

Head trauma and I headed to Target this afternoon on an errand for Cameron. Inbetween the 4 meltdowns we had on our 20 minute journey, I made her happy by letting her pick out new books. She got "go go" - Diego (who she is in LOVE with), "Ba" - Yo Gabba Gabba and a Princess book (which is slowly turning from "P" to something sounding more like "princess". It's currently something like "P-cess").

Here's about all she's been good for this weekend - sitting in her recliner and watching either "Ba", "go-go", "doda" or "p-cess".

Here's hoping for a better week!!

Fort

We've had these crazy foam floor tiles laying around here for months and months. I took them up when we got a proper rug for the living room, but Scarlett loves playing with them and on them so much, that I've yet to put them in the attic. One boring afternoon this week I got the brilliant idea to use them to build Scarlett a fort. It has been a HUGE hit! She loves crawling in her own little room with her toys and hanging out.

Tonight she was carrying around Bitty baby, 2 puppies, her quilt, a hairbrush and a baby bottle. All essential items in a girl's life. She brought all of that in her fort with her.

Happy Father's Day!

We celebrated Father's Day yesterday since Cameron's on call today. Scarlett woke up eager to give daddy his presents. I took Scarlett to paint Cameron a present at a paint your own pottery shop a few weeks ago. She made him a picture frame that turned out really cute!
Haha...I told them to smile here :)
Here's a closeup of the present.
We didn't do too much special during the day yesterday. We just hung out around the house and enjoyed each other's company (something we haven't done in awhile!!). Father's day dinner was courtesy of Outback.

Happy Father's Day to all our dads :) Can't wait for our belated celebration with my dad and Cameron's dad over the 4th!

A night out!!

Friday night was one of the first nights out that Cameron and I have had without Scarlett since she was born. We dropped her off at my friend Emily's house and headed downtown to the Ritz for the Oral Surgery graduation dinner. We had a great time hanging with our friends and eating fancy steaks. Emily reported that Scarlett was a very good girl and went to sleep with hardly any issue in the pack and play. I am not sure if she is lying :o)

The first year guys are responsible for a roast of the graduating chiefs and that went off very well! They filmed a very special celebrity Jeopardy where Cameron starred as Alex Trebek.

5 years from now we'll be at this dinner as the subject of those jokes. Seems really far off...

Here's the guys in Cameron's class - Matt, Cameron and Curtis

And one of the wives - me and Tonya (Curtis's wife and Grayson's mommy)
