Random Updates...

So, I have several random topics to update everyone on and just decided to throw them all in one big entry.

So first, Cameron's had a couple great accomplishments in dentistry in the past couple days. He successfully defended his thesis yesterday. Although he got some hard questions, his presentation went really well. All his committee members recommended him for honors! Today he got his WREB scores in the mail (that's the licensing exam he took a few weeks ago) and he passed with flying colors (which of course I knew he would!). So as soon as he graduates he'll be an officially licensed dentist! Yay for Cameron! We're all so proud :o) Here he is hard at work prepping for his presentation:

Scarlett had her first official sick visit to the doctor today. She woke up with an eye issue...all red and watery. I called the nurse line and they decided to bring her in to see the doctor since she's still so little. The doctor didn't think it was anything big, but since I supposedly have an eye infection (so says my optometrist at Pearle anyway...) he thought I may have passed something along to her, so he gave her some antibiotic eye ointment. She got her first dose tonight, and as you can imagine, giving a 5 month old eye ointment is NO FUN!! She has to continue it 3 times a day until her eye is better...which I hope is VERY VERY soon! Oh, and while we were at the doctor, I had her weighed. She's 16 lbs 6 1/2 ounces! She's gained about a pound this month (leveling off a little bit now - she had been gaining closer to 2 or 2 1/2 lbs a month for the past couple months).

Now, finally, a little bit on coming attractions from the Cavola household. Tomorrow is Scarlett's 5 month birthday. Hard to believe she's that old already! We'll be celebrating the occasion this weekend with her first cereal feeding! Stay tuned for stories and pictures of that! Here's a little taste of what's to come...Scarlett investigating the cereal box:

Scarlett loves ice cream

Recently, Scarlett has become VERY interested in whatever Cameron or I are eating or drinking. Cameron got an ice cream sandwich from the freezer and walked over towards Scarlett with it. She saw it and was enticed. Here's what ensued:

Good thing the paper's still on! Not sure she's ready for this type of solid food yet!

Shopping & Playing with Daddy

Scarlett was a lucky girl this weekend...she got to go shopping and get new clothes AND got some quality time with her daddy! We went to the mall in Cambridge on Saturday and bought her a few new things at Old Navy. She's already in 6-9 month clothes, so I got her some 12 month onesies so hopefully she'll have something to wear later this summer! We also picked out a cute sunsuit. Here's a picture of her new clothes!

And here's some pictures of her climbing on Cameron.

Sitting up AND rolling over... All in one week!

In addition to Scarlett's new found skills in sitting up, she is now officially rolling over too! She's been trying at it for awhile now, but finally on Friday she really got the hang of it and was rolling over and over in her genius dome. I thought it was a fluke because she refused to do it at all yesterday! Finally this morning she proved that she could do it again after all and rolled over 2 more times. She's only going from her back to her stomach. Once she's on her tummy she kicks and moves her arms like she's swimming. It's really pretty funny!! She'll be crawling before we know it. Unfortunately since she's rolling over so sporadically, I don't have any pictures to share. I'll work on getting some soon though!

McDonald's Friday

So, wouldn't you know, a month before we move out of this yankee town, my McDonald's starts selling "southern style" favorites. Yes, that's right, the southern style chicken sandwich (the knock off Chickfila sandwich with just 2 pickles), a chicken biscuit and sweet tea. So far this morning I've enjoyed a chicken biscuit from this new menu. While clearly it can't be as good as a chickfila chicken biscuit, it was still pretty amazingly delicious for a girl who's gone 4 years without so much as a mention of a chicken biscuit! Of course I had a vanilla iced coffee on the side. For those of you who have yet to discover McD's iced coffee...it's pretty much the best on the planet. And it's $1.99 in my town, which makes it cheaper than the $4 starbucks!

I realize this post has nothing to do with Scarlett, but she did accompany me to McD's...strapped to my front of course. She impressed the McD's lady with her utter cuteness, as well as several other guys in line. Well, duh, she is the cutest of the cute.

New Toys, New Tricks and Tiaras

First off, new toys. We bought Scarlett and "exer-saucer" last week...of the baby einstein variety of course! So far she loves it. She especially loves to talk to that green dinosaur guy that I lovingly call Baby Einstein MONSTER. She has graduated out of the floor gym, known to us as "genius dome" since she loves to stand and play now. What a big girl! Here's a few shots of her enjoying the new toy.

Now for new tricks. Scarlett's officially sitting up! She's been thinking about it for awhile now, sitting up propped up against pillows or me, but I started with her this morning pulling her up and letting her sit on her own. By the time Cameron got home tonight she was a master sitter, hardly falling at all anymore!

And finally, because it's so cute, tiaras. I found this tiara while cleaning out my closet this weekend and it's the perfect size for her. If she's anything like her mommy, there will be many more of these in the years to come :o)
Oh, and for these pictures and more check out the updated Picasa site (see links below).

New name

So, I decided that Cavola Family was a seriously boring name for my blog, so I enlisted the help of my journalist brother aka writer extraordinaire for help with a new name and this is what he came up with. I think it's fitting since we all know I'll be writing about Scarlett and you'll be reading just for stories of Scarlett!

Speaking of which, she's doing great and getting bigger every day! She's working on rolling over. So far she's done it once from her stomach to her back (several weeks ago) and from her back to her stomach last night. No repeats though! She's working on sitting up too and can go longer and longer every day before she topples. She's got a fun new toy too...Baby Einstein exer-saucer. I'll post some pictures of her in it later tonight.
